The new booklet contains 10 self-guided walks, each featuring visits to multiple waterfalls throughout the Hamilton area. Partners in the Waterfalls of Hamilton Project Team will be available to hand out copies and speak to visitors about the walks themselves, and the abundance of waterfalls and trail systems available in Hamilton. Join local Professional Forester Ed Borczon and learn how to indentify the native trees and shrubs found in and around the Enniskillen Conservation Area. This workshop is suitable for landowners in the Oak Ridges Moraine and beyond, with an interest in identifying the native trees and shrubs in their woodlots and plantations. We will be in the classroom and out on the trails, so dress for the weather and bring along sturdy footwear. The event will go rain or shine. We suggest bringing a digital camera, as it provides a great medium to capture the different leaves, buds, barks and twigs – all the tree parts that will help you become more knowledgeable about the forests around us. Registration is required as space is limited. A light lunch will be provided. The Rideau Trail Association will organize a walk along the towpath to a point across from the Perth Wildlife Reserve, near the observation tower. A boat will take walkers across the Tay to the Perth Wildlife Reserve where there will be a guided walk through the reserve to the Butterfly Garden. Members of the Rideau Valley Field Naturalists will give a guided tour of the Butterfly Garden, followed by refreshments and transport by bus back to the Riverside Drive starting point. A Geocaching Treasure Hunt at Allan Park Conservation Area

Allan Park consists of over 160 ha (400 acres) of rolling terrain and 16 km of winding trails through forests, plantations and kettle lakes. Be prepared to have a great time! Explore L.C.Henderson Conservation Area with a “Geocaching Twist” Geocaching is a high-tech treasure hunt which uses a global positioning system (GPS) unit to locate a hidden cache (treasure). Walk along the trails of the 115 hectare wetlands/forested habitat and bring your GPS receiver to discover the excitement of Geocaching . A limited number of GPS receivers will be available to borrow. A laptop will be set up to upload the coordinates to your GPS (if your GPS needs a special cable please bring it). The celebration of this historic trail begins at Heritage Park in Barrie at 10 a.m. Hikers will begin the journey along the former trade route linking Lake Ontario and Georgian Bay. It was first used by early Aboriginal inhabitants, followed by French explorers, missionaries and the British Army during the War of 1812. The trail ends at Historic Fort Willow where there will be historical re-enactors, encampments, demonstrations and live music. The re-created trail is approximately 15 km and follows a variety of terrain types including sidewalks, road allowances and earthen footpaths through natural areas.
